The Evolving Role of News on Twitter and Facebook

Pew Research Center reports that a majority of social media users now use Twitter and Facebook as a source of news:

clear majorities of Twitter (63%) and Facebook users (63%) now say each platform serves as a source for news about events and issues outside the realm of friends and family. That share has increased substantially from 2013

What I’d really like to know is what percentage of American adults are ON Facebook and Twitter. That would give an important context to this story. So I looked it up.

As of September 2014, according to Pew Research Center, 58 percent of American adults (18+) used Facebook, but only 19 percent used Twitter.

Journalists need to be aware of that when relying on social media for any kind of reporting. It can create an enormous bias.
